The japanese shiba inu is a small dog originating from japan were they were used to hunt and flush birds.The word shiba means small or little brushwood because of the red colour of the brushes and the word inu means dog.The shiba is the smallest of the japanese spitz breeds the others are the japanese akita,is the largest and he was original bred for hunting wild boar deer and bear and then fighting ,then the medium size the kishu they were used and guarding,shikoku used for deer hunting,then the kai he was used for hunting deer ,then the hokkaido or ainu these were for hunting bear and deer.
Twice in it long history shibas faced extiction following world war 2 and then 1959 when distemper broke out.Three founder members of the nippo had the job to find pure specimen of the shiba breed to bring the breed back from the brink of extinction.Thanks to them we would not know the shiba of today
The shiba of today comes in 4 colours they are red -intence clear red with white ghosting on the cheeks,eye spots ,under jaw,forchest,under pants no white is allowed above the elbow joint
